Black Pepper

The Spice on Everyone’s Table • Versatile & Flavorful

Black peppercorns are the sun-dried, unripe fruit of the Piper Nigrum plant, a flowering vine native to the southwestern coast of India. It has a sharp, earthy flavor that adds boldness and spice to any application. The pungency of black pepper is derived from the chemical compound piperine, as opposed to the capsaicin chemical component that gives chili peppers their spiciness. Use this spice to add flavor to mild ingredients like spinach, butternut squash, and parsnips.

The piperine found in black pepper is a type of antioxidant that may support cardiovascular, immune, and digestive health. It may also support nutrient bioavailability, the body’s ability to absorb nutrients from food.(1)

The black peppercorns and ground black pepper that BCFoods supplies to packaged food manufacturers can be used in almost any savory application, including seasoning blends, salad dressings, pasta sauces, cooking sauces, table sauces, soups, sausages, meat snacks, meat replacement applications, potato chips, and crackers.
